WORLD STRONGEST MAN
May 17 2019
But it was only with the tests of the open category athletes, that the pinnacle of enthusiasm was reached. Six tests to win the title: walk Farrmer, Deadlift, Traction and thrust, Apollon, Log Lift, and Atlas stone on one shoulder to finish. many twists, and spectacular injuries, but let's go with order.
The first test involves transporting a load of around 800 pounds for almost 100 Ft. The Ukrainian Chovnyk test was added in just 38 seconds (he practically ran the stretch running !!) unfortunately his good performance will cost him the withdrawal due to a hand injury .. this is the game!
In the second test the athletes must lift, in deadlift, 660 pounds for at least 10 repetitions. The Italian Ripamonti wins the race, having finished in last position after the first test, he gains the top spot, thanks to the withdrawal of the Ukrainian.
But it is with the third test that the race is fervent. Athletes must carry 3 sacks of increasing weight over the 50 Ft range and drag on the third return, an anchor chain, weighing over 2204 pounds! only four will be able to reach the finish line before the end of the test siren, two minutes after the start.
It is at this point that the fate seems to have ended. In the lead is the American Watson followed by the German Schmidt and the Italian Ripamonti. The third test, the lifting of the Apollon, the typical barbell to be lifted over the head without the aid of the legs (weight 300 pounds) leaves the classification almost unchanged.
But the penultimate race brings the general upheaval. For an error in filling in the weight request forms, the Italian is assigned a weight of 486 pounds (close to the world record of 508 pounds) which he claims to have scored 265. He is immediately a detective story. The jury is inflexible, claiming that the weight indicated must be the one in the race. If the athlete succeeded, he would go to the first position, destroying the American standing 300 pounds. And here the incredible happens !!

The Italian athlete raises the heavy Log on the first attempt. It's an ovation !! The public in delirium and the organizers themselves do not believe their eyes.
The last test marks the epilogue with a Watson (now unmotivated) who can't even lift the Atlas stone from the ground. Almost all of them except him succeed in bringing the atlas stone on his shoulder, yet still the Italian, now feeling the title in his hand, upsets everyone by lifting the stone three times in less than 90 seconds! Thus proclaimed, a champion for a nation that has traditionally never seen world class athletes in this discipline!
